  2.  │                        WHAT IS A "ZIP" FILE?                         │ 
  3.  │                                                                      │ 
  4.  │  ZIP is a method of file compression developed by Phil Katz and      │ 
  5.  │  his company known as PKWARE.  Thus the program name PKZIP.  Most    │ 
  6.  │  of the programs on BIZynet BBS are "zipped".  This saves a lot of   │ 
  7.  │  disk space and saves you time in downloading them.  Often the       │ 
  8.  │  programs are reduced in size by as much as 75%.  Most MS-DOS        │ 
  9.  │  programs consist of many files, each of which is necessary for      │ 
  10.  │  the program to work.  It would be inconvenient to have to download  │ 
  11.  │  each file separately, so the program is "zipped" into one file      │ 
  12.  │  that is smaller than the original program.  After you receive the   │ 
  13.  │  file, you "PKUNZIP" it back to it's original size ready to run.     │ 
  14.  │                                                                      │ 
  15.  │  In order to use program files that have been "zipped", you'll need  │ 
  16.  │  a copy of PKZIP.  The latest version can be found in the Utilities  │ 
  17.  │  section of BIZynet's library.  The file, PKZ110.EXE, is "self       │ 
  18.  │  extracting", meaning that it will "unzip" itself automatically      │ 
  19.  │  when you run it.  From there, you can read the documents and do     │ 
  20.  │  some experimenting.  It's actually quite easy to learn & master.    │
